The first Apple Watch orders are almost here, but on Tuesday the company finally locked down patents for some of the bands offered with the new smartwatch. Patently Apple points to a handful of filings published on Tuesday, including several covering the Sport Band, Classic Buckle and Link Bracelet.
All three options get the same vague description, with Apple calling each “the ornamental design for a band, as shown and described.” Included images offer a few more details that show how each works, though we already know a lot of that thanks to our hands-on time with the Apple Watch. The Cupertino company also previously patented its Modern Buckle design, which is only available in the smaller 38 mm size.
Apple also offers several other options, including the Milanese Loop and the magnetic Leather Loop, which still haven’t shown up in patents. The company has also been spotted gifting custom bands to various celebrities, including a special gold link bracelet for fashion icon Karl Lagerfeld and a red sport band for rugby player Will Carling. It’s still unclear if either of these designs will get a wider launch.
