OnePlus is adding an awesome new feature to CyanogenMod 12S

Do you want the good news or the bad news? The good news is that a new voice feature, similar to “OK Google,” is being added to CyanogenMod 12S. This will allow users to control their device with a simple voice command—all you’ll have to say is “OK OnePlus.” OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei says the feature will even work with the screen off, essentially making it identical to similar voice features offered by Google and Motorola.

The bad news is that if you haven’t received CyanogeMod 12S for your device yet, the initial OTA rollout has been paused to allow engineers to add the voice feature. That means you probably won’t be able to update to the newest version until at least midweek (maybe even later given OnePlus’ track record with release schedules).

If you have already received CM12s, Pei says that the new feature will arrive as an OTA update; you can also manually flash the update if you’re feeling particularly impatient. We made a guide of how to do this for OxygenOS if you don’t want to wait for CM12s.

It’s unfortunate this feature is delaying what has already been an overly-delayed software release. It’s even weirder that OnePlus isn’t adding this to its own software, OxygenOS, which the company released earlier this month.

We’ll be sure to let you know once OnePlus begins pushing out its latest update.
