WayForward has announced the first adventure game made exclusively for the Apple Watch. The game is Watch Quest, and it spans both the Apple Watch and the iPhone.
Before we get to the game, let’s talk a bit about WayForward as a studio. This is the team behind DuckTales Remastered, Mighty Switch Force!, Shantae (and all of her games), A Boy and His Blob and a few more titles. It has a penchant for delivering a fantastic retro feel below layers of modern mechanics.
Watch Quest, like we said, will require both the iPhone and Apple Watch to play. The iPhone, according to the release, “serves as the player’s kingdom, while the Apple Watch represents a journey that spans several hours.”
They continue by talking specifically about gameplay.
Gameplay revolves around choosing a hero and equipping them on the iPhone, and then guiding the Hero via the Apple Watch as he or she travels lands, battles monsters, solves puzzles, and searches for treasures. Players are invited to play passively by selecting longer, easier quests and outfitting the hero up front – or by taking on more difficult quests which require foraging for items as you go.
Watch Quest will be free with a single training quest, but extra characters and campaigns will be paid and require a purchase through the iPhone app. Watch Quest launches alongside the Apple Watch on April 24.
