Star Wars: Battlefront coming to the Xbox One first

Jawa from Star Wars

The long arm of timed exclusivity has claimed another victim for this holiday season. In addition to nabbing up Rise of the Tomb Raider, it would also seem that Microsoft has worked out a deal to secure Star Wars: Battlefront before the rest of the competitions’ versions.

It’s hardly unexpected considering this is the route that plenty of EA games have taken through its EA Access program, but Xbox Marketing Lead Aaron Greenberg has officially confirmed the early availability on his Twitter account.

Granted, this is not the same brand of timed exclusivity that Tomb Raider has. No secret contracts or anything of the like. For $4.99 a month, EA Access grants subscribers a five day window in which they get to play the game first, and Sony backed out of this subscription model. Only these people will have access to the game early, but that five days is all Microsoft needs to pound its chest and shout “Xbox One first!”

The game does not yet have an official release date, but it will be released for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC this holiday season.
