Project Tango price cut in half ahead of wider launch

Project Tango is expected to soon receive an official launch, but first Google is slashing the price from $1024 down to $512. For now, the company is offering this deal to anyone who’s already scored an invitation, though it looks like we could see broader availability before too long.

An email from Google obtained by Android Police confirms the drastic price drop. The message also notes that Project Tango will soon be available outside the U.S. and “more broadly” in general. It’s unclear if that means you’ll still need an invitation to order one.

Back in November, the Project Tango tablet landed on Google Play, though there’s still no option to actually buy one through the online store. We’re also waiting for an LG-made model to hit the market, though for now Google still hasn’t revealed any specific plans to bring this new technology to the mass market.
