HTC may not be bringing Android 5.1 Lollipop to its regular One M7, but those with a Google Play Edition device will get it. The company has confirmed that the update is rolling out “shortly” to both the One M7 and One M8 GPE variants.
“Approval for both M8 & M7 GPE versions have been granted by Google for 5.1 OS,” tweeted HTC Product Manager Mo Versi on Tuesday evening. “OTA [over-the-air update] out shortly!”
While Versi didn’t provide a specific release date for Android 5.1, HTC has been incredibly quick at rolling out its latest software once it has been given the thumbs-up by Google. Most of its Lollipop updates for other devices were delivered just one day after they were approved.
Just like Android 5.1 for Google’s own Nexus devices, this update will include support for HD Voice on handsets connected to T-Mobile or Verizon, the ability to switch Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connections in Quick Settings, anti-theft protection, and lots more.

As always, it will likely take a few weeks for all One M7 and One M8 Google Play Edition devices to get this update, but you can be sure it is on its way, so look out for an update notification soon.
