When Code Name: S.T.E.A.M. launched not too long ago, it was met with a wide range of critical opinion. People split on all sorts of points in the game, both loving and hating the combat, style and pacing. One thing most critics and fans unanimously hated? How long it took for the computer to move through turns.
I hammered on this problem pretty hard in my own review, and I even offered that if Nintendo and Intelligent Systems patched in a speed-up or skip option for the Alien Movement phase, the game would be that much better.
Well, here we are. The speed-up update was announced during a recent Nintendo Direct, and it’s now available as Code Name: S.T.E.A.M. has its version 1.1.0 update live.
Now, there’s a caveat with this Alien Movement speed update. The Nintendo 3DS lets users fast-forward through enemy turns at a rate roughly twice as fast as normal. New Nintendo 3DS users will be able to speed the game up to roughly triple the speed of Alien Movement.
That disparity makes me glad to have the New Nintendo 3DS XL.
Excuse me while I update my copy of Code Name: S.T.E.A.M.. I loved this game for just about everything except the alien turn speed, and I’m really glad that I’ll be able to restart the campaign with the ability to actually play at a pace closer to what I want.
Hopefully it’s fast enough.
