AT&T’s HTC One M8 gets Android 5.0 Lollipop

AT&T has finally approved HTC’s Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the One M8, and it will begin rolling out to customers today, HTC says. The release brings a whole host of improvements and new features, but does not include the new Sense 7 user interface.

“We just received technical approval for Lollipop OS!” tweeted HTC Product Manager Mo Versi on Monday evening. “Thank you for all your patience, OTA to start tomorrow.”

Just like the Lollipop updates that have already reached unlocked One M8 handsets — as well as those on T-Mobile and other carriers around the world — this release includes features like lock screen notifications, Smart Lock, and multi-user support.

It also brings significant improvements to performance and battery life, and some minor changes to Sense and HTC’s own applications. This release does not include the new Sense 7 interface that will make its debut on the One M9 this month, however.

But don’t be too disappointed, because according to Versi, the One M8 will get Sense 7 with HTC’s next software update.

If you’re a One M8 owner on AT&T, then, look out for an update notification today. The software will be available over-the-air, but bear in mind that it could take a couple of weeks to reach all users.
