Sony Computer Entertainment America has officially started distributing class action settlement offers for PS Vita owners who bought the handheld prior to June 1, 2012.
I think most of us are the same when it comes to emails that claim to offer rewards in a settlement. That is, we don’t believe them. They come so often, are regularly filtered into the spam folder and represent a slice of the Internet that generally cashes in on ignorance to make some scratch.
This PS Vita one is totally legitimate.
The company was accused of false advertising regarding the PS Vita from the FTC a while back. The commission alleged that SCEA had pushed the Vita as a machine capable of playing any PS4 game at any time away from the home console in advertisements.
Rather than take their case to court, SCEA elected to settle. That’s what these emails some of us have received are. Get a reward from Sony and you forfeit your right to sue the company over false advertisement.
The rewards themselves are actually fairly generous. You can either get a $25 PSN credit, check for $25 or a merchandise voucher potentially worth $50 or more.
All you need to do is fill out a form at VitaClaims.com. You have until June 30, 2015 to do so, and you’ll need to enter your PSN ID in order to validate your claim. Remember, you’ll have to had purchased a PS Vita before June 1, 2012.
