GameStop’s website couldn’t handle the amiibo rush

I might’ve totally forgotten to log into GameStop’s website Thursday to try my luck at pre-ordering a Ness amiibo, but plenty of others remembered, it seems.

Pre-orders for upcoming amiibo, including Charizard, Pac-Man, and Ness went live at 2 p.m. CST on Thursday. Just as fast pre-orders went up, though, GameStop’s site went down. The site was “down for improvements” for hours. Though it finally came up again, pre-orders for amiibo were suspended for the time being.

GameStop said on its Facebook page that due to the problems caused by high demand, that it is “accepting pre-orders of amiibo in stores only” until the website issues are resolved, and then later updated to say that all Wave 4 amiibo pre-orders had sold out.

While GameStop has Ness as an exclusive, Target has Jigglypuff as an in-store only exclusive and Toys R Us has the Greninja amiibo up.

Good luck, amiibo hunters.
