A few weeks back, we thought EA and Respawn were hosting a special DLC giveaway for Titanfall. The game was roughly a year old, and all the DLC on the PC and Xbox One versions of the game was marked free.
It turns out the company is tired of the fragmented player base. Folks that own the DLC play by themselves in certain playlists, and that means the matchmaking is a little harder for everyone. The DLC was made free in order to get all players on the same page.
“I think that’s a fantastic way to do it…I think having the maps like that in packs, it does split the community and it makes it harder for matchmaking, it’s messy. Yeah. I don’t know we won’t do it again, I can’t say that for sure, but the idea would be to do something different.”
The mess is almost gone, it seems. Respawn’s Rayme Vinson took to Twitter to indicate that DLC and regular map playlists are being merged.
Now that our DLC maps are free (forever, etc), we're starting to merge them into almost every playlist. This'll also improve matchmaking.

Hear that? That’s the sound of me downloading all of the Titanfall DLC to my Xbox One for a few rounds today. Consider my interest in the game piqued once more.
