Game delays are almost always for the best, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t hurt when it happens.
Quantum Break, the time-manipulation shooter from Remedy Entertainment, has officially been pushed into 2016.
“We thank our fans for their patience, and want them to know that the team is taking advantage of this opportunity to polish and fine tune the game to create the kind of standout entertainment experience they’ve come to expect from us,” said Sam Lake, Remedy’s Creative Director.
The reasoning behind it, according to the official statement, is that Xbox One’s fall line-up is already so full that it’s being pushed out simply to make room for games like Halo 5: Guardians, Rise of the Tomb Raider and Forza Motorsport 6.
If E3 brings us a first quarter 2016 release date for the game, then this might well be the case. The reality, though, is that Remedy makes great games that almost never come out on time. Alan Wake and Max Payne both suffered from years of delays before finally landing with critical acclaim. With Quantum Break being Remedy’s most ambitious title to date, it was a foregone conclusion for many fans that we’d see the game spill over into next year. The studio has an interesting concept for the game that intertwines television serial episodes with a third person action game. The two ship together and are tied together, affecting each other.
It’s not yet clear how that’ll work, but anytime a studio is trying to do something new it can come with roadblocks. Here’s to hoping it doesn’t slip over into 2017 next.
