Microsoft had teased that it was planning to dole out double the free games in April through its Games with Gold program, and it has followed through with that promise with a pretty solid showing of titles.
Starting with the Xbox One, Gold subscribers will be able to pick up Ubisoft’s JRPG tribute Child of Light and Pool Nation FX. I don’t think it will be too hard to predict which of those two I support more, but in a world where both are free, who needs to play favorites? You have all month to pick up both, so be sure to do so.
As for the Xbox 360, the first half of the month will play home to Gears of War: Judgment and Terraria. The former is a kind of origin story for the shooter series, and it didn’t prove to be as popular as the series’ main entries. I never got around to playing it. Terraria on the other hand is a world building indie hit, a Minecraft for those who like 2D side-scrolling and ridiculous boss fights.
The second half of the month, starting on April 16, Xbox 360 Gold subscribers can pick up Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, often heralded as a high point of the franchise’s erratic level of quality, and Army of Two: The Devil’s Cartel, EA’s attempt to revive the forgettable co-op franchise with a new “mature” look. Can’t say that I ever got around to it.
Double games for April, all you Gold subscribers out there! Which are you looking forward to most?
