One of the best parts of Xenoblade Chronicles, for me at least, was the collection of monsters big and small. The battle system is sort of complex at times, but the way it’s paced and plays is actually almost relaxing. As long as you have the right equipment, gems and strategy in place, you can do a lot of damage and have a lot of fun while taking on monsters.
Speaking of monsters, unique monsters in Xenoblade Chronicles are always a thrill. These guys are basically massive (typically) beasts that serve as minibosses. Beating them yields solid loot and an Affinity Coin, so you’ll want to always tangle with them when you have the chance.
The video at the head of this post is one such encounter. Shulk’s team take on a level 16 unique monster, and in spite of the handheld’s size, the battle feels and looks large and challenging.
I love battling unique monsters, and as I rolled through the game on the 3DS for review, I found myself seeking them out constantly. They’re a challenge, yes. I died way too many times by playing out of my league, but it’s still fun.
Xenoblade Chronicles 3D will release for the New Nintendo 3DS on April 10. We’ll have more on the game as it comes.
