Fan-made Hyper Dragon Ball Z is still the best looking DBZ game

As much as I enjoyed Dragon Ball Xenoverse, the most exciting Dragon Ball Z fighting game these days is still Hyper Dragon Ball Z. It’s been about a year since we checked in on the Mugen-based tournament fighter, and the developers behind it have started pumping out more and more trailers showing off the fruits of their long labors.

Just see for yourself! The latest clip shows off Gohan going toe-to-toe with Majin Vegeta, and it looks nothing shy of amazing for a professionally made project. Just ignore the fact that this is a fan game for a minute and really think about the quality of of these sprites. Sound effects and Vegeta’s voice have been pulled straight from the show, but the voice of Gohan is an original voice actor.

It makes me totally forget about Arc System Works’ Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butoden for the Nintendo 3DS, and this Hyper Dragon Ball Z doesn’t come with the baggage of wondering if a localization will ever happen!

YouTube user Balthazar has a handful of other gameplay clips on his site as well, so be sure to check those out. It seems that the team already has Frieza, Majin Vegeta, Gohan, Mr. Satan, Super Saiyan Goku and Goku all up and running in their first build of the game. More characters are expected to follow.

Be sure to check out the reveal trailer below as well. That’ll open your eyes to what the team has in mind for the final product.

Man, that is amazing. I’m still thinking that Bandai Namco should contract these guys.
