Payday 2

Overkill Software and 505 Games’ Payday series is apparently living up to its namesake. The sleeper hit first-person franchise is paying the bills as Overkill has just committed itself to further supporting the sequel, Payday 2, until 2017.

Thanks to the new deal between its developer and publisher, free DLC content will be made available for any and all who play it. The game is big enough of a hit to not require a charge for these extra little add-ons.

Yes! We are very excited about this. We love working on PAYDAY 2 and look forward taking care of our game for two more years, making new free updates, paid DLC’s and awesome campaigns together with the community. This is possible because we signed a new deal together with our publishing partner 505 games. Thanks to them, we can continue focusing on making PAYDAY 2 better and better.

It’s the dream of all indie developers. Make a simple hit that proves to be a popular crowd favorite, and just roll out the free content and goodwill. I’m not so certain that Grand Theft Auto V and Battlefield: Hardline incorporating more heists into its gameplay in the post-Payday world is much of a coincidence either.

Payday 2 is available now for the PC, and it will be getting a PlayStation 4 and Xbox One port in June.
