Acer announced recently that it’s refreshing its Acer C910 Chromebook with a more powerful fifth generation Intel Core i5 processor. Acer will continue to sell other members of the C910 family, including models with less powerful Intel Celeron and Intel Core i3 processors, the company said.

“The advanced technology will boost productivity and help our education and commercial customers get the most out of their Chromebook experience for collaboration on important projects and research,” Acer’s mobility business manager Carlos Siqueiros said.

The Core i5 processor is a lot of power for a notebook that runs Chrome OS, and given the recent launch of the Chromebook Pixel 2, which offers either an Intel Core i5 or Intel Core i7 processor, it seems like Google might be preparing hardware for a big software update. That’s purely speculation, but maybe we’ll hear more on this front during Google I/O in May.

The new Acer C910 Chromebook, model number C910-41M1, will launch early next month around $499.99, Acer said, noting that it will ship with a full 1920 x 1080 display, 32GB of storage and 4GB of RAM.
