New Xperia Z4 photos surface, along with some bad news

A new leak yesterday provided a close look at a Xperia Z4 render. Several more have since been published, and all give us a clearer picture of what Sony may have in store for its next flagship Android smartphone. There’s some bad news that comes with the photos, however.

First, the good news: as we saw on Monday, it looks like Sony isn’t deviating too far from its industrial design language with the Xperia Z4. And why should it? Xperia fans have long praised the beautiful bodies of Sony’s smartphones and have appreciated niceties such as the water and dust resistance that pretty much comes standard. The dedicated camera button appears to be intact, too, which is great for folks who want to take quick advantage of the Xperia Z4’s boosted camera prowess.

Now the bad news: while Sony had originally suggested that it was continuing to refresh its smartphones quicker than once every 12 months, it appears it’s now back on that schedule. HDBlog said it has learned that Sony plans to announce the Xperia Z4 during the IFA trade show in Berlin this September. That’s six months from now and it gives Samsung and HTC plenty of breathing room with the Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge and One M9 to grab consumers that might have otherwise considered a Sony device.

Keep in mind that this is still a rumor, but it’s certainly plausible considering Sony’s past unveils during the September trade show. At least we have the Xperia Z4 Tablet to look forward to this summer.
