Not a whole lot new from this new batch of Dragon’s Dogma Online screenshots, but if Capcom is putting them out, we’ll show them. The company has done a good job pushing its free-to-play MMORPG out from under the initial “meh” reaction and turned it into something that many fans genuinely want to try.
This is largely due to the impressive monster renderings that each trailer and screenshot has shown to date. Capcom wants you to know though that there are actual humans in this game also which demand a little attention. Just as much care went into making the people who populate this fantasy world, and it shows with these close-ups.
The most impressive images come from a pair of concept art which shows what looks like the final stand of a white dragon. Warriors surround the bloody beast in the first shot, but we can’t tell if he is rising to his feet in the second one to take on his murderers once again or if these people are praising him and helping him get back into fighting shape. Without a third image, it is hard to guess the context of this scene.
Capcom’s first Dragon’s Dogma game introduced a pleasantly surprising lore for its new fantasy universe, but much of it was lost behind an impenetrable and cumbersome world map that almost seemed designed to infuriate gamers. Here’s to hoping that Capcom’s online division has listened to criticisms and will make this online game a much smoother experience.
Dragon’s Dogma Online will launch for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and PC in 2015. No official word of a localization just yet.
