Crytek has been having some trouble lately. After some financial difficulty, including trouble paying employees, the gaming tech company’s future was in question. It eventually secured the funds to continue on, but had to close one of their studios. It sold off their upcoming Homefront: The Revolution to Deep Silver. Things haven’t been looking too good.

The studio that brought us the original Far Cry, Crysis, and the CryEngine has a big announcement coming soon.

Studio co-founder Faruk Yerli said in an interview with Develop Online that the deal has been in the works for a long time.

“We made a licensing deal. It was a huge one, probably the biggest one. I can’t say anything in more detail,” Yerli said. “But hopefully we’ll be able to announce it with the partner soon.”

Crytek’s Cryengine is one of the best looking gaming engines on the market, standing well against more popular stuff like Unreal Engine 4 and Unity 5, but sales of games like Ryse: Son of Rome in recent years haven’t matched the quality of the visuals. We’re looking forward to seeing what Crytek has to announce.
