Former Banjo-Kazooie devs reveal Project Ukulele, “rebirth of the 3D platformer”

Make no mistake, Playtonic Games is highlighting the fact that its studio is made up with veterans from the glory days of platformers like Banjo-Kazooie. Most of them worked on the original games in that beloved franchise, and with studio taglines like “an all new ‘Rare-Breed’ of game creators, it obviously wants that advertised.

Well, that advertisement is working on me. Hearing that names like Chris Sutherland, Gavin Price, Grant Kirkhope and David Wise are all involved in what Playtonic Games is making is huge for the Banjo-Kazooie lover in me.

Over the weekend, the studio took time to officially reveal Project Ukulele, a game it teased with the subtle image you see at the end of the gallery at the head of this post. Also in that gallery are the two environment screenshots that were used to officially announce Project Ukulele.

The Banjo-Kazooie style is evident, along with the classic 3D platformer space design from ages ago. Frankly, the environments look great. Hopefully the duo of heroes designed for this one is just as cool.

We’ll have more on Project Ukulele as it comes.
