BlackBerry adds paid features to BBM for iOS, including custom PIN

BlackBerry added new features to its BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) for iPhone application that may help it earn a few bucks from the app.

End users can pay for the new features to bolster their experience inside of the application. One option is a custom BBM PIN, something that’s typically reserved for the company’s high-end products, like its Porsche Design BlackBerry devices, which feature unique PINs.

“With a Custom PIN subscription you can make a PIN that’s easy for you and your friends to remember and/or says something special about you,” BlackBerry explained . “Custom PINs have to follow certain guidelines. They must be 6-8 characters long, and can include numbers and letters only. Special characters cannot be used and PINs are not case sensitive.” The service costs $1.99 per month. 8675309, anyone?

BBM is also offering an upgrade to an ad-free BBM experience on the iPhone. That option costs 99 cents a month, which is a bit expensive. A one time fee might work better for most folks, especially considering competing services such as WhatsApp don’t have ads at all.

You can subscribe to the new premium features by downloading the latest BBM for iPhone update, and we’ve provided a link in the the source below.
