Atlus has confirmed that Etrian Odyssey Untold 2: The Fafnir Knight will be coming to the West for the Nintendo 3DS with a summer release in mind.
For those who are still foreign this series, Etrian Odyssey channels the first-person dungeon crawlers of old like the classic Wizardry franchise. This release is a remake of the second Etrian Odyssey game from the original Nintendo DS trilogy, and it uses the same graphic engine found in Etrian Odyssey 4 and the first Etrian Odyssey Untold. The appeal also lies in the choice between a new story mode with defined characters or classic mode, which is pure dungeon crawling.
Etrian Odyssey Untold 2 also scores a lot of points for being the most well remembered of the original three games. The first one is a brutal mess to slash through, and the third one kind of loses itself under countless levels of unnecessary depth. Most hold this entry in high regard as the most balanced with all of its elements.
Atlus has also been pairing the releases of this series as well. 2013 saw the releases of both Etrian Odyssey 4 and Etrian Odyssey Untold, and now in 2015 we will have Etrian Mystery Dungeon launching next month to compliment Etrian Odyssey Untold 2. Sounds like heaven for fans, but I hope they don’t get burned out. Meanwhile, Atlus could finally be working on Etrian Odyssey 5 in a bunker somewhere in Japan.
Again, Etrian Odyssey 2: The Fafnir Knight will be released for the Nintendo 3DS this coming summer. Be sure to take another look at its excellent intro sequence one more time.
