We’re smack dab in the middle of a revival of space exploration games. Elite: Dangerous from Frontier Developments was one of the very first to make it to market. Now, the studio has announced that the game will be making the jump to consoles with an Xbox One release.
The Xbox One version will, according to the developer, include all of the PC version’s content added up through the February and March content updates.
I love space sim games, but find them incredibly intimidating. Elite: Dangerous is an open world space exploration and it’s known for even being tough enough to control that people have made more than a few tutorials just for landing your spacecraft. A shift to consoles could significantly lower the barrier of entry on the genre and make games like Star Citizen more appealing to a larger audience.
As for other platforms, creator David Braben confirmed on Twitter that we can also look forward to seeing this title on Mac and, eventually, PlayStation 4. Xbox One, he says, is a “timed exclusive.”
Elite: Dangerous doesn’t have an exact release date, but Frontier plans to release it in before the end of the 2015 calendar year.
