Remember the BlackBerry Torch? It was a BlackBerry with a keyboard that hid behind the display and that could slide out whenever needed. BlackBerry hasn’t really fooled around with the idea much since it killed off the Torch family a few years ago, but it’s going to revisit that form factor.
During Mobile World Congress, BlackBerry teased a new smartphone with a slider form factor and a dual-curved display that’s similar to what we’ve seen on the Galaxy S6 Edge. BlackBerry CEO John Chen didn’t provide much information on the phone, only showing it off briefly from the stage. One artist, Dylan Habkirk, took that design and created his own set of concept images, trying to show us what it might actually look like if and when it ever launches.
Keep in mind these are concepts, and they aren’t official from BlackBerry, but they do look pretty similar to what Chen showed off during MWC. The artist imagines a dual-edge Quad HD display, a 16-megapixel camera, a 35-key slide-out keyboard, a 3,650mAh battery and dual stereo speakers, all of which may never come to fruition but are certainly plausible. Think we’ll see BlackBerry take this path?
