Refreshed 13-inch MacBook Air with Broadwell chip leaked

It looks like a MacBook Air refresh is most definitely coming. New images found on Chinese site Feng suggest a new model containing Intel’s new Broadwell processor is imminent. This looks like a minor upgrade over the existing 13-inch model, however, and not the rumored 12-inch redesign we’ve been hearing so much about.

According to the screenshots, the refresh will feature an Intel Core 1.6GHz i5-5250U processor and Intel HD Graphics 6000, 4GB of RAM and a screen resolution of 1440×900. The battery, meanwhile, looks like it’ll be similar in size to the existing 13-inch MacBook Air, though the new Intel chip should provide an even more optimized experience.

It’s worth noting that the model being listed is the lowest end model; in other words the cheapest 13-inch MacBook Air that’ll be available later this year. There will be other options, too including a top-end a 2.2GHz Intel Core i7 model with 8GB of RAM and 512GB of flash storage. The machine appears to be running OS X 10.10.2, which includes Apple’s new Photos app, along with other smaller changes.

It’s very possible these images were faked, but seeing as the MacBook Air hasn’t been updated since April of last year, a refresh definitely seems plausible. There’s no mention of an 11-inch model, though the small Air is expected to come with the same specs. It would appear, then, that Apple will offer 11-inch, 13-inch and 12-inch MacBook Airs; however, there’s always the possibility Apple could call the 12-inch model, which is rumored to include a Retina screen, something else entirely.

Apple has an event scheduled for March 9—this coming Monday—where in addition to some refreshed laptops, the company is also expected to talk about its upcoming wearable.
