In addition to whatever else they might have up their sleeves, Harmonix is hard at work on Amplitude and plans to show it at PAX East later this week.

Ahead of the show, a new feature has debuted that is coming to the series for the first time: Team multiplayer.

Team multiplayer is meant to even the playing field between newer players and more experienced ones, letting players go at it 2v2 or 3v1. Harmonix’s Creative Lead Ryan Lesser writes on the PlayStation blog that he hopes the mode might even appeal to the competitive gaming community.

If you’re going to be at PAX East, the new mode will be on display there. If not, Amplitude is currently set to release this summer.
