12-inch Retina MacBook Air rumored for March 9 event

Apple’s March 9 event won’t just focus on its upcoming wearable. It might also include a number of other long-awaited announcements, including a 12-inch Retina MacBook Air, which has been talked about off and on for a number of months now. The new rumor comes from The Michael Report, citing “sources familiar with the matter.”

A completely new MacBook Air has been talked about since early last year, so hearing the device is imminent isn’t exactly new, especially so close to a major event. If you haven’t been caught up yet, it’s rumored that Apple will unveil a new laptop that’s thinner and lighter than anything Apple has ever put out—possibly thinner than Apple’s own iPhone 6, which is the company’s thinnest smartphone.

The rumor claims the new laptop will feature a high resolution display, sport a fanless design, redesigned trackpad, and a USB Type-C port. The Michael Report doesn’t add any new information about the rumored device—just to say Apple will unveil the laptop at next week’s event.

As MacRumors points out, The Michael Report doesn’t have the most accurate track record, citing inaccurate information about the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus last year. However, since we’ve heard so much about the 12-inch MacBook Air over the past several months, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the device show up at Apple’s event on March 9.
