Sonic the Hedgehog fans are gripping their Wii U GamePads and other assorted console controllers over the last few weeks, cringing in fear as SEGA continues to migrate towards PC and mobile games. The latest game in the troubled franchise, Sonic Boom, seemingly hit an all-time low, and speculation of a shift to mobile ran rampant after the next announced game turned out to be a solid looking infinite runner.

You can put your fears to rest, though, Sonic fans. SEGA has promised that your torture will continue. Sonic Team leader Takashi Iizuka bluntly states in an interview with 4Gamer:

“Please rest assured, I personally have no plans to stop making Sonic games for home consoles.”

Iizuka was answering a question regarding Sonic going totally mobile. Recent moves like cutting 300 jobs to remain profitable don’t paint a very promising future for console development at the prominent publisher. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Rumors of a new game from the series being developed in house at Team Sonic haven’t panned out just yet, but here’s to hoping!
