Blackphone 2 announced with upgraded specs and new software

Blackphone2-1

It’s been just over a year since Blackphone hit the market. Now the company is following up the original privacy focused device with an upgraded Blackphone 2 and a brand new super-secure tablet.

The Blackphone 2 packs a 5.5-inch 1080p display,  a 3,060mAh non-removable battery, a faster processor and 3GB of RAM. It’s set to launch in the second half of 2015 for $649, the same price Silent Circle charged for the original handset. Meanwhile, a 7-inch tablet called the Blackphone+ is set to launch later in the year, though the company wouldn’t reveal anything else about the upcoming slate.

On the software side of things, Silent Circle announced the first major update to its privacy-focused operating system with PrivateOS 1.1. The new update adds Spaces, a feature which lets you switch between separate profiles on your phone. There’s also a new secure conference call app called Silent Meeting.

We’ve reached out to Silent Circle for more information on these new devices, and we’ll let you know as soon as we learn anything more.
