amazon truck 3d printer patent

Amazon already offers a pretty amazing delivery service. With Amazon Prime you can get pretty much anything delivered to your door in just two days, while Amazon Fresh brings you groceries even faster. Now, the company has come up with an idea that could speed things up even more.

A new patent from Amazon published last week runs through several scenarios where the company could use 3D printers to create certain products on the go. It’s a pretty smart idea, but it gets better. What if those 3D printers were on moving trucks?

If Amazon had a fleet of 3D printer-equipped trucks it could bring production right to you. Creating and packaging products while the truck drove from house to house. The patent also imagines a separate scenario where 3D printers are located in a nearby warehouse, with trucks shuttling items from the company to its customers.

Of course, just because Amazon patented the idea doesn’t mean it will actually happen. Still, the company seems bent on speeding up deliveries, and 3D printing is a good place to start.
