When I read about YIIK: A Postmodern RPG, it hits me in all the right places. I’ve heard it described as a 3D hipster take on EarthBound, and that’s a set of qualities that will likely only hit a small slice of the gaming world just right.
It’s working on me, I suppose. Even the synopsis on the actual video’s YouTube description sounds nuts.
When recent college graduate Alex Eggleston returns home from college, he finds adult life to be filled with mystery, strange friends from the internet, and other worlds that exist just out of sight. In YIIK, journey across an expansive flat-shaded wonderland, rife with with intricate puzzles, fast paced turn based 8 party-member battles, cat tossing, panda dropping, ladder throwing action. *Batteries not included*
As a side note, we have an appointment on the books to check out YIIK at PAX East in roughly two weeks. I’ll be sure to report back with my opinion and a bit more analysis once I’ve gone hands-on with the title and spoken to its developers.
Hopefully what they show off at the convention is just as peculiar and interesting as the stuff in the trailer above.
When YIIK does release later this year, it will hit the PC, PS Vita, PlayStation 4 and Wii U platforms.
