OnePlus One owners should get CyanogenMod 12S (Android 5.0) around this time next month. According to OnePlus co-founder, Carl Pei, development on the new software is in the final stretch, though it hasn’t been without its hurdles. There’s actually a lively discussion over on Pei’s Twitter; he said a lot of the delay comes down to “proprietary drivers, code, QA, certifications,” which is a major reason why OnePlus missed its promised 90-day Lollipop deadline.

OnePlus isn’t the only company to delay the release of its next big software release, but I think we can all agree that’s for the better. The more time spent ironing out issues, the fewer problems users should run into when the new software is initially released. At least, in theory. OnePlus still has a few weeks to work on its software before it’s ready for primetime. Users have reported nightly versions of 12S have been really stable, so it’s likely just a matter of receiving certifications before a roll out can commence.

And on that note, Pei also mentions its very own Oxygen OS should also be out next month, which is good news for people anxiously waiting to see what the young startup’s mobile software is all about. We know that OnePlus has collected a ragtag team of experienced mobile developers, so we’re expecting some great stuff when the OS becomes available. Hopefully there won’t be any major delays between now and next month.
