The oft-demanded remake of Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2 has been officially dated for release in America. Devil Survivor 2: Record Breaker will be available on May 2 in America, exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS.
Not wanting to skimp on content like it did for the Nintendo 3DS remake of the first Devil Survivor, Atlus added a complete overhaul of the graphics and even more story to plow through after the main campaign has come to an end. I’m not always in agreement with this idea when it comes to JRPGs, but Shin Megami Tensei usually handles extra story better than other franchises.
A new trailer released by Atlus gives a good look into these extra chapters.
The Devil Survivor games are popular for not just their storylines but also their unique approach with the traditional Shin Megami Tensei mechanics. Both games accommodate the elemental weaknesses and demon fusing found in other games, but they throw them into a strategy RPG style game, similar to the battle system found in Final Fantasy Tactics.
Again, Devil Survivor 2: Record Breaker will be released for the Nintendo 3DS on May 2. Surprisingly, it is yet another game in the overarching Shin Megami Tensei series that is dropping the name of its parent series following the trend set by Persona 4 Golden and Persona 5. Is Atlus tired of the sub-series overshadowing the main line game, or is it trying to stand these off-shoots up on their own two feet?
