Xenoblade Chronicles 3D is the absolute biggest reason to splurge on a New Nintendo 3DS XL this early into the platform’s lifespan. Nintendo has teased exclusive games designed specifically for the upgraded handheld’s superior horsepower, but so far, this is the only one we’ve seen materialize.
The game itself was a universally praised hit back on the Wii with a deep storyline, intricate battle system, and massive world to explore. It’s a shame that the console version is so rare, and this might end up being the only way for many to experience the game. Cramming such an enormous game into a handheld must have been no easy task, but porting company Monster Games has done a decent job of cutting corners to make the best possible game it can.
I still don’t think it does the justice that a beautiful and enormous game like Xenoblade Chronicles really deserves, but if you are going for a pure gameplay experience, you could do a lot worse.
The latest trailer for Xenoblade Chronicles 3D is in Japanese, but it should lay out a decent idea of what to expect from the package. Gameplay, battles, the scope of the bosses, and maybe even the shortcomings of the backgrounds and character models too. I’ll drop in a trailer for the original for the sake of comparison.
Xenoblade Chronicles 3D will launch exclusively for the New Nintendo 3DS on April 10.
