The Last Guardian still being developed despite trademark lapse, says Sony

The Last Guardian‘s has once again expired. The expiration pushed the Internet to… once again… fire up the assumptions that the game has been cancelled. This news spread yesterday afternoon and even further this morning.

Now, as our own Ron Duwell sort of guessed at in his story about this earlier today, Sony has come out and said that it’s still working on the game. The lapse was, apparently, an “administrative error at PlayStation America,” which is the story Sony gave GameSpot.

That’s all Sony has said about the lapse. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office apparently informed PlayStation America that it would need to renew this name way back in July of last year, but that extension slipped through the cracks and now Sony’s seeing some backlash.

This game is vaporware, pure and simple. Sony may still be working on it, but we haven’t seen The Last Guardian formally in years. It’s supposedly being developed under “new conditions,” a phrase most assume means that it’s being moved from the PS3 to the PS4.

Who knows? The Last Guardian is still being worked on… we guess.
