My PS Vita has emerged as my console of choice these days. Kind of strange considering many believe it to be a gaming device without an identity, and some even declare it as dead in the water. What’s not to like, though? It specializes in everything I am into these days, indie games and my retro JRPG faves, and it gives me the most options for how to play them.
This spring will be getting an even larger dose of Japanese and indie credibility thanks to a handful of favorites being confirmed in a new trailer. Shovel Knight, Titan Souls, and Hotline Miami 2 are the highlights of the reel, but what else can you pick out that might be up your alley?
- Obeshika: Tainted Bloodlines
- Jungle Rumble
- Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number
- Shovel Knight
- Toukiden: Kiwami
- Olii Olli 2: Welcome to Olliwood
- Titan Souls
- Spongebob HeroPants
- Grim Fandango: Remastered
What’s best about Vita support for an indie game now is that with a PS TV, I can play from the same file on both a huge TV and on the train. No loss in save data, no fumbling with the wobbly streaming. Just swap the memory card between the two devices and you have a game that can be played anywhere without being strictly tied to a small screen.
Shovel Knight? Put it on the TV or take it on the train. Titan Souls? Again, anywhere you want on any screen you want. You better believe I’ll be getting the Vita version for both of these. Bonus points if they support cross-buy purchases.
The PS Vita deserves a lot more love than it is getting, and I’m glad that the indie scene is at least on board to make it my preferred platform these days. If only I could play SaGa Frontier on it now!
