Capcom fans who have been begging for Monster Hunter support in the States, your week has finally arrived! Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate is launching on the Nintendo 3DS in the West tomorrow, and Capcom’s launch trailer does more than enough to get you reacquainted with the online RPG series.
Tour the wilderness, climb cliffs, sharpen your weapons, dress your character, and bash enormous monsters over the head. Rinse and repeat with new found equipment, and bring the other expendable items to sell back at the base. That’s the name of the game in Monster Hunter. If you can find friends to do it with, more power to you.
The series has been nothing short of a phenomenon in Japan over the last decade. Millions of copies are sold at launch each time one hits the shelves, and it even made the PSP a success practically by itself! No small feat there!
Despite this, Monster Hunter has yet to replicate that success in the States. Online RPG gameplay without the stress of subscriptions or micro-transactions has been something many have been requesting for years though, so maybe this is the one that will do it.
I’ve never been the biggest fan of Monster Hunter, but even I might be checking this one out. Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate launches on the Nintendo 3DS on Feb. 13
