I was just recently turned on to this gorgeous little gem of a racing game, and now I own the proper platform to play it on as well. Super System Softworks’ Drift Stage is coming to the PlayStation 4 and PS Vita in 2016 as confirmed by the game’s official Kickstarter page.
With Drift Stage, Super System Softworks is looking to channel the classic feel of arcade racers from the late 80s and early 90s by using a vast array of bright colors and deliciously retro car models. Let’s not forget to mention that the soundtrack is really sweet too.
The company has just closed out its Kickstarter campaign, securing $57,000 when it only requested $30,000, making it a big success. No plans were made in the stretch goals or campaign pitch for a console port, but apparently, Drift Stage’s style and success caught the eye of Sony, who has been in talks with the developers since before the campaign ended.
Super System Softworks also stated: “If you’re a fan of other non-Sony affiliated game devices, we haven’t ruled them out, but we don’t have anything to say right now.” Campaign funding was used to secure a PC release, so that is where the funds focused and why the ports will take a year.
I’m cool with that. This looks like a wonderful little racing game to both toss up on the big screen and take with me on my commute to work. Check out Drift Stage for the PC before the end of this year, and expect the PlayStation 4 and PS Vita version in 2016.
