BioWare cancels Shadow Realms, keeps team on board

Shadow Realms started its public life with an interesting ad campaign this fall before being overhauled into a full release in January. That life span turned out, however, to be much shorter than we’d expected.

BioWare announced today that it has “made the decision not to move forward with the development of Shadow Realms.”

“While the team did amazing work on the game concept, and we got lots of great feedback from our fans… right now there are other projects for the team to work on within BioWare studios.”

For those looking forward to a new property coming out of one of the top RPG producers, it’s disappointing to hear about it being scrapped in favor of working on other stuff. There is a bright side, though.

We’ve seen too many studio closures in the last few years, but this won’t be one of them. BioWare has lots of projects in the hopper, including additional content for Dragon Age: Inquisition, the next game in the Mass Effect series and “other new IP.” BioWare Austin, the studio behind Shadow Realms, will be working on Star Wars: The Old Republic, which BioWare believes will see a bump thanks to the impending release of the next Star Wars film.

Shadow Realms, we barely knew you. We’ll miss the dapper guy with the smoke face, the hoodie full of light, the kid who was trying to get into the car (but was already in the car) and the kid who didn’t want to answer his phone. Here’s a gallery of what little we did get to see.
