Sid Meier’s Starships’ Customization Explored by Sid Himself

by Joey Davidson | February 7, 2015February 7, 2015 11:00 am PDT

Sid Meier’s Starships is a turn-based 4X space strategy game. It exists in the same universe as Civilization: Beyond Earth.

Sid Meier, the famous man behind the initial creation of the Civilization series, sits with Firaxis Games’ Pete Murray as they discuss and show off the starship customization features in this new game in the video above. This all went down during a livestream presentation, and they even take time at the end of the clip to answer questions from fans.

Once things start rolling into the actual game around the five minute mark, Meier starts tweaking and playing with all sorts of ships and parts. They discus the nature of customization of a ship and the specific affects those changes have on crafts in the game. Armor, for instance, makes ships slower.

If you stick with the clip long enough, you’ll actually see our hosts engage in some actual gameplay. The game looks pretty interesting, though we’re way too far away to cast judgement on this thing just yet.

Sid Meier’s Starships is set to release on the PC, Mac and iOS platforms during the first half of this year.
