Castle in the Darkness Now Available on Steam for $5

Just a quick reminder that Nicalis’ Castle in the Darkness is now available on Steam for a discounted price of $4.97. The 8-bit inspired retro platformer is proving to be every bit as grueling as masochists like myself could have hoped for. Complaints about its difficulty are already flaring up all over the Internet.

Nicalis’ approach to the increasingly popular “grueling retro platformer” genre adds an RPG element to the mix with a vast array of armor and weapons for our sword wielding protagonist to crash into battle with. This marks Nicalis’ second stab at the genre with its previous attempt, 1001 Spikes, also scoring waves of praise. The company is also well known for developing The Binding of Issac: Rebirth alongside Team Meat’s Edmund McMillen.

Plus, Castle in the Darkness also stars a frog with a sword. We all know what a winning combination that proves to be!
