There is just no stopping this juggernaut. Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto V is quickly on its way to becoming the best selling video game of all time. This latest figures of 45 million shipped units puts it above Super Mario Bros. on the all-time best-selling list with only Minecraft, Wii Sports, and Tetris to go.
The news comes from Take Two’s financial call. The large boost of sales came from the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions released the previous holiday season. These saw “nearly 10 million units” shipped in that time period.
Of course, we all know that this is not the end of the line for Rockstar’s massive hit either. Grand Theft Auto V will soon be getting a highly anticipated PC release, and that comes packaged with the potential for Steam Sales and Humble Bundles. It’s only going to be a matter of time before another game is laid victim to this rampage.
Overall for the previous quarter, Take-Two pulled in $531.1 million, a solid figure but a huge drop from the previous year when it raked up a record $1.86 billion. This can easily be accounted for by the lack of a new Grand Theft Auto game launching.
