Borderlands 3 Being “Built Specifically for Next-Gen Consoles”

Borderlands - The Handsome Collection - 6

With Borderlands, the jump to the new generation of consoles has been rather slow. Last year’s Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel launched as an Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC title in spite of the fact that the new generation was already a year old.

That Pre-Sequel is making the move to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One alongside Borderlands 2 in The Handsome Collection this spring, but that comes half a year after its original release. All of that news did not go unnoticed by the Borderlands fan base. They want a new generation game.

That’s coming, according to 2K Games President Karl Slatoff. He spoke during yesterday’s financial call about the future of several 2K series, and he even explained that the new Borderlands is being made for the new generation of consoles.

“Looking further ahead, we have robust long-term pipeline of titles in development, including ground-breaking new intellectual properties and new releases from our proven franchises…

…For example, we can confirm that 2K and Gearbox Software will develop an all-new Borderlands game built specifically for next-gen consoles.”

Stop saying “next-gen.” It’s not “next-gen.” It’s current gen. If you want to speak about its newness, use the word new. It can’t be next if it’s already here.

Silly frustrations aside, it’s good to hear that 2K and Gearbox are ready to fully make the move from Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 to Xbox One and PlayStation 4. It’s about time, really.
