Xiaomi doesn’t just make smartphones. The Chinese company offers everything from Mi-branded TVs to air purifiers. Now, Xiaomi could be eyeing another quickly-growing market: drones.

MyDrivers reports that the new drones are already in testing, though they may not be produced by the company directly. Instead, Xiaomi has apparently invested in a smaller firm called Flymi. We’re guessing the new drones will work with Xiaomi’s Android-based MiUI software, which helps tie the company’s entire gadget ecosystem together.

For now, the first Xiaomi drone still isn’t ready for an official launch. MyDrivers notes that the original design was too similar to the popular DJI Phantom drone (pictured above), sending the company back to the drawing board. Still, we wouldn’t be surprised to see the first official model launch later this year, at least in China.

Xiaomi has already confirmed plans to expand into the U.S. in the future, though it could be a few years before the company is ready to tackle the extremely competitive American market. In the meantime we’re excited to see what Xiaomi has planned over in China, where it’s already become a force to be reckoned with.
