The lineage from the Souls games (Demon’s and Dark) might be fairly obvious in Bloodborne, but From Software seeks to differentiate the title from its predecessors in ways other than the shift from medieval to Gothic.
One way it’s doing that is with Chalice Dungeons.
These dungeons are procedurally generated areas personal to each player. In the video above, Bloodborne producer Masaaki Yamagiwa expands on what we already know, making a direct comparison to roguelike games as a way of describing these dungeons. The dungeons will be something you can invite players into, and should give even devoted fans of these kinds of games a new way to approach Bloodborne in particular.
Yamagiwa also addresses difficulty, saying that he thinks fans of Demon’s Souls will find the “brutal and deadly” combat even more satisfying than the original.
Bloodborne is set to release exclusively on PlayStation 4 on March 24, 2015.
