A brand new update for Super Smash Bros. on the Wii U has brought with it a whole pile of 8-Player Smash stages.

The 316MB patch, first and foremost, brings more maps for massive chaos. Initially, 8-Player Smash could only be played on a handful of the game’s largest maps. Now, this patch offers even bigger version of 15 more stages (spread over regular and Final Destination style.

Here’s the rundown in Japanese with translation.

Regular stages

(X)/ Mario Circuit (X)
Luigi’s Mansion
Pyrosphere
Norfair
Lylat Cruise
2 / Pokémon Stadium 2
Animal Crossing / Town and City
Animal Crossing / Smashville

Final Destination stages

Mario Galaxy
(X) / Mario Circuit (X)
Kirby : The Great Cave Offensive
Lylat Cruise
2 / Pokémon Stadium 2
Animal Crossing – Town and City

A few of the small stages now made massive for this eight player gametype have undergone some changes. Here’s that rundown.

  • Mario Circuit – lacks shyguys
  • Luigi’s Mansion – Can’t be destroyed
  • Pyrosphere – lacks ridley
  • Norfair – no lava at all
  • Lylat Cruise – no ships flying around
  • Pokémon Stadium 2 – lacks stage transitions
  • Town and City – All background characters removed
  • Smashville – All background characters removed (cept petey, he stayed at a slow framerate)
  • Studio Wii Fit – no mirror background [sic]

All of this comes from L~A & Kolma on NeoGAF. The video you see at the head of this post comes form the wonderful GameXplain on YouTube.

The update is free and available now. Just get your Wii U online.

Now, if only I can actually get eight players over to my house. We always cap out at seven… That’s not nearly enough mayhem.
