Snapchat Discover Finally Arrives to Serve Up Curated Content

After endless delays and plenty of speculation, Snapchat Discover arrived today with an update for iOS and Android. The redesigned app now include an extra tab where you can scroll through curated videos and articles from a handful of sources, ranging from CNN and National Geographic to Comedy Central and Vice.

Snapchat Discover introduces some new user interface tricks as well, though the entire thing is still as simple and intuitive as ever. Just swipe all the way to the right to check out the new page, and then pick the news source you’re interested in. From there, you can scan through stories by swiping to the left and right. If something interests you, swipe up for the full thing. If you want to switch to a different stream just swipe down and you’ll return to the Discover homepage.

The entire app has also been tweaked slightly. To add contacts, you’ll now need to tap the little ghost icon on the main screen, and there’s a new option to add friends in person by scanning a special QR code on your phone. It might take a few moments to get used to, but not much else has really changed.

As for Discover, it’s definitely something new. We’ll have to give it a day or so before coming to any sort of final opinion, but based on our first impressions it’s worth a try.
