It’s been a while since we last heard from Homeworld. Last year, Borderlands developer Gearbox purchased the rights to the classic RTS franchise following the collapse of former publisher THQ, and it announced plans to give the series a modern day makeover.
Now, we finally have an official date for the re-release. Homeworld Remastered will be released for the PC through Steam on Feb. 25th at a price of $34.99. Pre-orders get a 15 percent discount at $29.74. The package will contain a complete revamp of the first two classic games from the series, and Gearbox even brought aboard several of the original developers to help with the porting process.
For those who never played them, these first two entries in the Homeworld franchise were revolutionary RTS games which brought the genre into outerspace with gorgeous graphics and a fully realized 3D map. The overhaul Gearbox has given them looks stunning in the provided screenshots and reveal trailers, and I’ll be sure to give them a try if I ever get the chance to get around to them.
