It won’t just be on the big screen where you see X-Men. In addition to Apocalypse in 2016, the Hollywood Reporter claims a live-action X-Men TV series is being worked on. Very few details are available at this time, though it appears discussions about a potential series are in the advanced stages; writers have been picked, and show runners have also been plucked from the Hollywood lineup. Now it’s just a matter of finding out what mutants will be involved. Therein lies the biggest obstacle.

If the X-Men series does decide to use the same mutants who appeared in First Class and Days of Future Past, not only will Fox need to find new actors, but the timeline will likely be thrown all out of whack. Marvel has proven very capable of maintaining balance with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Agent Carter, so characters like Wolverine, Professor X, Magneto, etc. could very well play a part. However, chances are the series will focus on different characters entirely.

One possibility would be to have a show about the New Mutants, which is a group of teenaged mutant superheroes-in-training. Not only would it give the writers entirely new characters to explore and develop, but there’s that whole teen-angst angle; it has the potential to appeal to a wide-ranging audience. Members of The New Mutants include Blink, Boom-Boom, Cannonball, Cypher, Karma, Mirage, Skids, Sunspot and more.

Marvel has to sign off on bringing the franchise to the small screen in order for this to become a reality. The Hollywood Reporter doesn’t indicate which way Marvel is leaning, but you can bet the company is very interested in making this a reality. There have been plenty of X-Men movies and spin-offs throughout the years, and it looks like the mutant superheroes will finally make their live action TV debut.
